The victim, Marietta Shaw, is described as a doting mother dedicated to her newborn girl and 4-year-old daughter.
“I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it happened to her because she was a very sweet woman,” said Shaw’s uncle, Anthony Shaw.
A third child, a 3-year-old friend of theirs stayed with the family Thursday night. Police said none of the children were hurt during the violent incident. They were taken into temporary protective custody by police.
“It truly is heartbreaking, to be honest with you,” said Shaw’s cousin Gabrielle Davis, who couldn’t believe the news.
Davis said her cousin was very bright and witty.
“She was very funny, very humorous. She always saw the bright side of everything. If you spoke about something bad she’d look at it on the humorous side and make a joke out of it,” said Davis.
Shaw had a message for Marietta’s killer: “It’s not worth it. You’ve taken a life for nothing.”
Dallas police said they are questioning a person of interest in the case.
