In 2008, I opened my Bible and began to read the story about Abigail and Nabel. It was a story that spoke to me in various ways for various reasons. This is a story of a woman who experienced domestic violence and although it does not go into detail we do know that Abigail's Husband(Nabal) was a very hot tempered, mean and disrespectful man. Nabal was a man that was selfish and truly only concerned with himself. When people did things for him he in returned act like he didn't know them. Nabal always felt like somebody owed him something. Eventually the way that Nabal was would soon get him into trouble. One day when David came to pay Nabal a visit, Nabal acted as if he did not know who David was, He began to yell and say all kind of things to the men that David sent to talk to Nabal. When the news was reported back to David, David was furious because he knew that Nabal knew very well who he was. David had did a lot for him as well as offer to protect him ans his family. All David asked was if Nabal would be so kind to feed his men seeing as David has done so much for him he still asked and Nabal disrespected him.David was so mad that he said he would kill everybody that was surround by David. When the news got back to Abigail she went behind her husbands back and went to David and basically talked to him out of seeking revenge because we all know that Vengeance is of the Lord. Abigail did not make any excuses for her husband but she knew that she had faith in God and that God would turn her situation around. Because Abigail went to David to make peace on behalf of her husband David decided not to kill David and his family. Most people would say that Abigail was wrong for going behind her husbands back but she was not because she knew that either way it went her husband would not listen and would be mad. If it wasn't for Abigail she and her family probably would have died because of her husbands ignorance and lack of respect for others. Look at some scriptures that showed Abigail Faith and humbleness: Samuel 25:24-31, 1 Samuel 25:24-31 (New International Version)"24 She fell at his feet(Davids) and said: "My lord, let the blame be on me alone. Please let your servant speak to you; hear what your servant has to say. 25 May my lord pay no attention to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name--his name is Fool, and folly goes with him. But as for me, your servant, I did not see the men my master sent. 26 "Now since the LORD has kept you, my master, from bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hands, as surely as the LORD lives and as you live, may your enemies and all who intend to harm my master be like Nabal. 27 And let this gift, which your servant has brought to my master, be given to the men who follow you. 28 Please forgive your servant's offense, for the LORD will certainly make a lasting dynasty for my master, because he fights the LORD's battles. Let no wrongdoing be found in you as long as you live. 29 Even though someone is pursuing you to take your life, the life of my master will be bound securely in the bundle of the living by the LORD your God. But the lives of your enemies he will hurl away as from the pocket of a sling. 30 When the LORD has done for my master every good thing he promised concerning him and has appointed him leader over Israel, 31 my master will not have on his conscience the staggering burden of needless bloodshed or of having avenged himself. And when the LORD has brought my master success, remember your servant." If we remember in proverbs 31 it says that a womans husband and children will praise her and call her blessed just because of who she is and although Abigail was not davids wife YET look at his response to her:"Then David said to Abigail: “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! And blessed is your advice and blessed are you, because you have kept me this day from coming to bloodshed and from avenging myself with my own hand. David praise God and was thankful that Abigail talked some sense into him she didnt cover up what her husband did but she let God use her to let David know that he should do the right thing INSPITE OF. Shorty after this whole ordeal, God killed Napel(Abigails Husband) and David came and asked for Abigails hand in marriage and she accepted. Ladies AND gentlemen, allow me to address the issue of domestic violence to you. Domestic violence is ANY AND ALL forms of abuse if you are being disrespected, threaten, called out your name, if you are being controlled(told what to do, what to wear, monitored as far as were you can go, what you can do, who you can talk to, etc),If you are being told things such as you will never be anything without them, you need them. you will never amount to anything, you are worthless, ugly, etc. if you are being physically abused you are a victim of domestic violence and we would love to help you in anyway but let me introduce you to GOD if I may. You see what God did for Abigail? God cannot stand a wicked man/or woman especially one that is unwilling to change because there are some that can change. Police said Alisha Waters Mathis, 31, was tracked down and shot by Dennis Mathis on Tuesday on her way to work at Personal Touch Home Health Care, located at 20 North Grand Ave. She remains hospitalized. According to reports, Mathis, 32, chased his wife into the three-story brick office building, shooting her several times before turning the gun on himself. He died at the scene. Fort Thomas police said the first call reporting the shooting came in at about 8 a.m.. According to court records, Waters Mathis had been separated from her husband of five years since March and told a court in her petition for a protective order that he had been verbally abusing her, texting her and calling her repeatedly. "I am in fear for the safety of myself and my two dogs,'' according to the Kenton County court records. On April 16, a judge granted the order - restricting Mathis to stay more than 500 feet from her. But six days later - and on the same day as he filed for divorce - a judge dismissed the protective order, saying there was "no allegation of domestic violence." Family members said Waters Mathis was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she remains in critical condition. Officials reported she was released from surgery at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. She was alert and talking to paramedics when she was taken to UCMC, according to family members. Family members told 9 On Your Side’s Shannon Kettler the couple has no children. The family said they were shocked that the shooting happened. "We are asking for a lot of thoughts and prayers,” Waters Mathis’ brother, Kurt Russell, said. Fort Thomas police Lt. Rich Whitford said a witness reported seeing a man chase a woman into the building before the shooting happened. Whitford said officers could see people hanging out of the building when they arrived. The officers who arrived thought they had an active shooter situation and entered the building, Whitford said. “A witness (was) saying he parked around another office complex and ran after her, (and) chased her into the building; that’s where he caught up with her and shot her multiple times in the lobby, that’s where we found her. She’s been shot multiple times. I think he used a .380 (caliber) handgun,” Whitford said. Waters Mathis was unconscious when officers found her. Officials said about 20 people were evacuated from the building during the emergency. “It's a horrible situation. I am just glad no one else was injured. I hope she makes it,” Whitford said. “It's going to be a long day.” The lieutenant said the shooting happened in the first-floor lobby of the building. Police let workers back into the office complex by late morning after the scene was cleared, according to people who work there. "(It’s) pretty scary, I feel terrible for the ladies in there,” attorney Tim Schneider said. “They told us the scene was secure for us to bring back our workers, … it’s just sad for the people who were hurt in the situation.” Schneider works for the Fessler, Schneider and Grimme law firm, in an office close to the scene. The shooting has put the normally quiet community of Fort Thomas on edge. “As a Fort Thomas resident, I’m shocked," said Tammy Nolan. "You usually don’t hear of suicides and that kind of thing. Stuff like this happens but it just doesn’t happen here” Independence police were dispatched to the home Mathis owned around noon. Police said the officers were waiting on a search warrant to be issued to allow them to search the home. According to Boone County records the couple married on July 26, 2008. Kenton County Circuit Court records state Waters Mathis said she had not been living with her husband since March. Waters Mathis was afraid that her husband may have been following her, according to the petition she wrote seeking the protective order on April 16. She also wrote that Mathis was on medication for mental illness "which I firmly believe he has not been taking." The records do not indicate from what illness he may have been suffering from. The records state Mathis filed for divorce on April 22, 2013, saying the marriage was irretrievably broken.
