According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, 21-year-old Traymont B. Burton went on a murderous rampage, gunning down his ex-girlfriend Michelle S. Kelly, 22, their son two-year-old son Keytrell Kelly and a friend of Michelle, Adreena D. Gary, 19. The former couple had apparently been experiencing domestic issues, including a child custody dispute.
When officers arrived on the scene at approximately 8:21 p.m. in response to a 911 call reporting “shots fired,” they found Adreena, who had already been shot, outside the front door on the sidewalk. She died at the scene. Inside of the home, investigators found the bodies of Keytrell and Michelle. Traymont’s body was also discovered. It’s believed that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. From what investigators gather, he shot all three victims before turning the gun on himself.
Adreena’s parents are devastated by her murder. Relatives believe that she was simply at the home as a mediator during a custody transfer between Traymont and Michelle.
“My heart dropped to the bottom of my feet; there are no words for this,” said her father Clarence Gary. “She always wanted to help people, to do the right thing.”
Adreena was a student at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, where she was pursuing a degree in criminal justice. She had dreams of being a lawyer.
“Everyone who knows ‘Dreeny’ knows how great she is. She’s a helpful person, and apparently that’s what she was doing tonight is trying to help a friend,” Adreena’s sister Claryce Gary told NBC 12. “I know there will be no justice. There can’t be, and that’s what makes it so hard.”
Michelle is described by her cousin Shaheem Simmons as a young mother who was devoted to her son.
