In July of 2014, The Dollicia F. Holloway Memorial Foundation, Inc. were selected as Community Partners with the AllState Foundation. Through their Domestic Violence Advocacy Group, TEAM ADV-Ance, The Group had to opportunity to participate in the AllState Foundation's Purple Purse Challenge. The Group hosted an online contest to raise funds for their program. Kerry Washington, the Ambassador for the AllState Foundation Purple Purse, donated her signature limited edition handbag, which the Group had an opportunity to host a contest to raise funds for their program.
The Group was also fortunate to donate 1 Purple Purses into the life of a Domestic Violence Survivor. Cecibel C.(pictured left), was a victim of a robbery on her way the doctors office. She unfortunately had her pocketbook stolen from her and was attacked where she had to fight her way out of a corner. She was able to flee from her assailant. She screamed out for her help, but no one did anything but stand around and watched. She was able to contact the police, but by that time, the thief had already ran off with her pocketbook. I know for some ladies, they keep their lives in their pocketbook(keys, cellphone and wallet). Altanya Gerald Burgess, Co-Founder of TEAM ADV-Ance (pictured with Cecibel C.) and I were so disturbed by the incident and what happened to her, we decided to SOW into our own Foundation and donate The Purple Purse Pocketbook to Cecibel C. for the inconvenience she experienced during last weeks attack. Thank God she is OK.
Our other winner of our AllState Foundation Purple Purse Challenge hailed out of Montclair, New Jersey. Ms. Cynthia W(pictured right). participated in our Contest and on April 24, she was pronounced the winner of our Limited Edition Purple Purse, designed by The AllState Foundation Purple Purse Ambassador, Kerry Washington.
Finally, we had our "Mother's Day" Purple Purse Challenge Contest. Our contest winner was
Mrs. Lisa G. We happily presented her with her Purple Purse. She was so pleased with her Purple Purse. Mrs. G. said, " Happy Mother's Day to "ME!" I love my new bag but more importantly I support the cause with my whole heart. I'm so proud of what the (The Dollicia F. Holloway Memorial) Foundation is accomplishing.
The Group was fortunate enough to raise awareness, as well as using the funds to create the "Power Of The P.U.R.S.E." Financial Literacy Program for Domestic Violence Survivors. Through online and offline donations, our Domestic Violence Advocacy Group were fortunate enough to raise a total of $835.00.
